Recur - Final Week

“In a world of bullshit, fashion and mumbo jumbo it is a relief to know that an artist as strong and humble as Jehan is creating simple beauty with such diligence and madness. Time will tell the unknowing that this is a very real and serious artist.”
Robert Lloyd, Singer/Songwriter, The Nightingales

A final chance to add a bit of colour to these monotone February days. Jehan's supersize collages used for recent cd covers for the band The Nightingales, are an array of vibrant swirling mix of sweetshop acidics and powder room pastels

RESPONSE - Jamie Barbor

Paintings, Prints and Drawings.

All hung and preview enjoyed - show continues until 31st Dec

Weds - Sat 11am - 4pm
We can be flexible - just give us a ring on 01377 236008 if you would like to view outside of these hours

The work explores a person jostling with contemporary ideals and thoughts, figuring out its own reason and purpose. The figures and forms created not only explore the given surrounding they exist in but also confront the lineage of painting that investigates the boundary between figuration and abstraction. Underpinning this is a reflection on how restless the state of society is.

When finished the imagery makes its own sense or reason for existence. This reason provokes so much excitement and demands energy and time from the viewer posing the question of the hold iconography has on us now and in history. This highlights the importance of the relationship between artist and medium and the role ‘response’ has in creating art. The medium in many ways is using the artist to develop as it seems fit.

The Departure of the Domestic

We have so enjoyed hosting Lewis Robinson's 'Redefining the Domestic' and will be sorry to see it go on Sunday. Wood, and in this instance furniture holds such emotion and memory, Lewis works with this but at the same time addresses the concerns of art history itself and manages to have some fun with it.

A winter rest for the DJ Touring Gallery

After a mad, hectic but very enjoyable time out and about with the DJ Touring Gallery, we are resting our little caravan over winter until warmer times.
We already have some exciting plans for the 2012 tour.

In the meantime the work submitted for the caravan is going to be over wintered in DJ Selections where it can be seen from mid November.

Thanks to all the wonderful artists who have supported us in this venture.

Marie Antoinette

Overheard from a group of teens peering through the window at Duckett and Jeffreys - "Thats Marie Antoinette" to which the response was - " No its not, its Serena Partridge." Gallery labeling could change the course of history.

Serena is one of the seven Ryedale based artists exhibiting throughout ArtFest at Duckett and Jeffreys. The exhibition continues until 8th Oct

Atelier - Ronald Ceuppens

Had a great time in Belgium catching up with Ronald in his wonderful studio with impressive etching press. Love the way Ronald weaves together all of his talents using stitching, printmaking and painting to produce stunning 2d and 3d work.
