Bubble Wrap and Boxes

There is something so exciting about unveiling new work from its protective wrappings.
With her own developed language of marks, signs and symbols, Susan’s pared down landscapes bring order, balance and control to an often chaotic visual world as she observes the distant and mundane and brings to the viewer a new ordered sense of beauty.

Susan Laughton's exhibition 'Measured Space' continues until 16th October.

CONSIDERED SURFACES

Sad to be taking down 'Considered Surfaces' - such a wonderful mixture of sensitively employed talent but happy to be retaining it in DJ Selections where it can continue to be enjoyed.

ART. IN. SPACES.

Whilst in between hangs it was great to be able to offer our space at Duckett and Jeffreys to Emily Outhwaite, a young interactive artist who is documenting her exploration into the relationship between art and the spaces in which it is placed, positioned, displayed in.

More of Emily's work can be seen on her blog: http://artinspaces.blogspot.com/

Andreas Rüthi - Double Page Paintings - Talk

Thanks Andreas, a great informal talk, Q&A and book signing - Double Page Paintings - Duckett and Jeffreys Gallery

Meeting Artists

Popped down to London to meet Lizi Sanchez in her London studio and to see some of the work she will be showing at Duckett and Jeffreys in June. Amazed how Lizi works in her tiny space - she is very tidy

Also met Ronald Ceuppens, a Belgium artist who brought over a beautiful consignment, being shown asap in DJ Selections and in DJ Solos in August. Ronald trained for three years in tailoring before doing a second degree in Art - print and graphics. His haunting pieces combine printmaking and stitching.

DJ Selections - Long and Winding Road

How far away is Norfolk? A long and winding way.

Popped down to Norwich to meet artist Olivia Jeffries and pick up a consignment of her beautiful drawings for the gallery. www.duckettandjeffreys.com. Similarity in name a pure coincidence.

Olivia’s work is being shown in our DJ selections where we showcase print, drawings, illustrations and all things funky.

Did a bit of an extended detour on the way back to visit Cromer - chips, peas, sea, sand - bliss.

On the way down stopped in at the Ropewalk Gallery where they had a great touring show of Jake and Dinos Chapman’s etchings, ‘My Giant Colouring book.’ Loosely based on dot-dot drawings from children’s colouring books, these etchings were photo etched onto copper plates. Dinos comments that they “are about how wrong you could make an image. How you could use nodal points and ignore them at the same time.”

In contrast was Dionne Swift’s exhibition, “New Grounds” which included collagraphic prints on industrial felt. A bit of a Prunella Clough moment.

Andreas Rüthi - Double Page Paintings

Only a few days before the launch of our second show, 'Double Page Paintings' by Andreas Rüthi we were missing both an artist and artwork. Andreas is stranded on a beach in Australia (volcanic ash problem), awaiting a flight back to the UK. BUT thanks to the amazing professionalism of Andreas and his wife Helen Sear, we now have a super body of art, delivered from Wales via Leeds and to Malton.
