RESPONSE - Jamie Barbor

Paintings, Prints and Drawings.

All hung and preview enjoyed - show continues until 31st Dec

Weds - Sat 11am - 4pm
We can be flexible - just give us a ring on 01377 236008 if you would like to view outside of these hours

The work explores a person jostling with contemporary ideals and thoughts, figuring out its own reason and purpose. The figures and forms created not only explore the given surrounding they exist in but also confront the lineage of painting that investigates the boundary between figuration and abstraction. Underpinning this is a reflection on how restless the state of society is.

When finished the imagery makes its own sense or reason for existence. This reason provokes so much excitement and demands energy and time from the viewer posing the question of the hold iconography has on us now and in history. This highlights the importance of the relationship between artist and medium and the role ‘response’ has in creating art. The medium in many ways is using the artist to develop as it seems fit.

The Departure of the Domestic

We have so enjoyed hosting Lewis Robinson's 'Redefining the Domestic' and will be sorry to see it go on Sunday. Wood, and in this instance furniture holds such emotion and memory, Lewis works with this but at the same time addresses the concerns of art history itself and manages to have some fun with it.

A winter rest for the DJ Touring Gallery

After a mad, hectic but very enjoyable time out and about with the DJ Touring Gallery, we are resting our little caravan over winter until warmer times.
We already have some exciting plans for the 2012 tour.

In the meantime the work submitted for the caravan is going to be over wintered in DJ Selections where it can be seen from mid November.

Thanks to all the wonderful artists who have supported us in this venture.

Marie Antoinette

Overheard from a group of teens peering through the window at Duckett and Jeffreys - "Thats Marie Antoinette" to which the response was - " No its not, its Serena Partridge." Gallery labeling could change the course of history.

Serena is one of the seven Ryedale based artists exhibiting throughout ArtFest at Duckett and Jeffreys. The exhibition continues until 8th Oct

Delve into our Drawers

So pleased that Emma Lawrenson has agreed to produce a range of limited edition prints for our DJ Selection. Do come and delve into our drawers.

"I'm influenced greatly by the simplicity and bold use of colour in the work of Ellsworth Kelly and feel that screen printing is the perfect tool in which to create work of this nature. Screen printing enables me to produce smooth, flat and crisp images, exploring shape and form through the layering of colours, texture and painterly marks. "

Emma began printmaking in 1991 and graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1998.

She recently won the 'Flourish Award' for excellence in printmaking, and has forthcoming exhibitions at Dean Clough Gallery, Halifax and Huddersfield Art Gallery. Emma will be exhibiting her work in a solo show at Duckett and Jeffreys in 2012. In the meantime we wish her all the best with her busy schedule.

The awards also aim to develop excellence by offering a period of research and development to some of Wales’ most interesting artists.
Inseparable, an exhibition featuring Helen’s Tale and Rice Field works opens at Duckett and Jeffreys Gallery on 23rd Feb and runs until 2nd April. Helen will be at the gallery to talk about her work on 11th March 7pm - 9pm

Nestling Wings

‎'I focus on subtle generalities, common intimacies, and general valid truths, as: love, longing, death, hope-- which will never become over-used subjects, because they are eternally embedded in human nature and we will always identify with them.' Ingrid Blixt

So excited to be presenting Ingrid's beautiful photography and mixed media works. Can be found nestling in DJ Selections in Duckett and Jeffreys Gallery.
